The Department of Experimental Physics has a number of vacancies for undergraduate students including and in addition to the NUIM SPUR ( Summer Programme for Undergraduate Research). This programme is intended to give undergraduate students a taste of what university research is like and to expose students to the research undertaken in the Department of Experimental Physics and also to the benefits of postgraduate research study at NUI Maynooth. As part of the NUIM postgraduate scholarship programme, the Department of Experimental Physics is offering ONE Hume Scholarship, starting in September 2009.
The scholarship will be combined with a teaching assistantship, and will comprise the payment of fees at EU level plus a sum of €8000 per year for a maximum of four years. The recipient will be required to perform a certain number of demonstrating or tutorial hours per week within the department.
Candidates wishing to be considered for a Hume scholarship must first make contact with a prospective supervisor within the Department of Experimental Physics to agree on a possible topic for a Ph.D.
