The course MH204 - Physics with Astrophysics has the same structure as other courses provided by the Faculty of Science at NUI Maynooth. The table gives an outline of the course structure over the 4 years. If you pass your examinations at the end of 4th year, you will obtain a Single-Honours B.Sc. Degree in Physics with Astrophysics.

Staff are highly experienced specifically in astrophysics and are internationally recognised as experts in their field.
There is a high level of one-to-one interaction between lecturers and students, and an open-door policy exists to aid students with difficulties and help them achieve their goals.
Facilities are state-of-the-art, including a Meade Schmidt telescope and observatory. In addition the on-campus Astronomy Club is extremely active, with many field trips, and is presently negotiating a system whereby students will have remote access to telescopes around the country.
Postgraduate research opportunities are second-to-none involving research on projects which will actually be launched into space.
Newly-built student on-campus accommodation and recreational facilities provide apartments, ensuite bedrooms and internet access. The Accommodations office also provides a service whereby it will assist students in gaining accommodation in the Maynooth area.
Maynooth is essentially a university town, and as a result the student identity in the community is strong. Students from all over the country who have studied here remember their time at Maynooth as a very positive one, and many continue to live here after they graduate.
With rail links, Dublin bus services, Bus Eireann services, daily coach services to Cavan, Mullingar, Drogheda, Dundrum, Carlow and Birr, and weekend coach services around the country, NUI Maynooth is extremely accessible.
Interested in astronomy, cosmology, celestial systems, and astrophysics? At Maynooth we have developed a special 4-year honours course which combines the study of physics and astronomy. The study of the stars and galaxies has enthralled people for centuries, and our students are no exception. Since the course began in September 2001 there has been great interest, and students who have taken the course have excelled in their studies. You can find out more about this course by looking at the Course Guide in the menu on the left.
The Physics with Astrophysics course provides an attractive possibility for those who are interested in astronomy and astrophysics, but who also want the option of pusuing a career in physics. Students taking this course will receive a thorough grounding in all the core areas of physics, and will also be given a substantial series of courses on topics in astronomy and astrophysics.
The requirement for entry into the course is a pass in a science subject, Mathematics, Irish, English, and a third language, with an overall mark of 450 (CAO 2006 entry).
