The Department of Experimental Physics runs several programmes of interest to secondary-school transition year students.
Transition year students can visit the laboratories in NUI Maynooth (Experimental Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science) as part of a programme run by the Registrar’s Office. During the (approx. 2-hour) visit there will be talks and ‘fun’ demonstrations in each of the subjects.
Please contact the Registrar’s Office to schedule a visit or Mr.Ian McAuley for specific information about the Experimental Physics demonstrations.
There is an opportunity for 6 students (3 pairs) to spend a week working in the Experimental Physics Department each January.
Please contact Dr. Niall McKeith, by December, for details.
If you are interested in further studies or a career in Physics/Astrophysics and would like a member of staff to visit your school to talk to students, ask your Physics teacher or Career's Guidance Councillor to contact us and arrange a suitable time.
The Department of Experimental Physics also organises a series of laboratory sessions for Leaving Certificate students. Please link here for details.
NUI Maynooth organises open days each year (usually around the end of November). At these events you will have the opportunity to hear talks about Experimental Physics, visit the laboratories, and talk to staff. Details are posted on the University Home Page nearer to the events.
The Maynooth Access Programme (MAP) focusses on under-represented groups in third level. See the Access Office website for details about their programmes.
